Edmond Briottet Creme de Framboise 700ML is a French raspberry liqueur bottled at 18% ABV, produced by the family-owned Maison Briottet in Dijon, France. This small-batch crème de framboise stands apart through its use of fresh whole raspberries macerated for a minimum of two months, resulting in a remarkably fruit-forward and balanced profile that has earned it recognition among mid-range raspberry liqueurs.Quick Facts: ABV: 18% | Origin: Dijon, France | Style: Crème de Framboise (Raspberry Liqueur) | Distillery: Maison Briottet (Est. 1836)Production & HeritageMaison Briottet has operated from its original facility at 12 Rue Berlier in the historic center of Dijon since its founding in 1836. The narrow one-way street and limited space at the distillery physically restrict production scale, keeping everything in genuinely small batches — not as a marketing choice, but as an operational reality. For this crème de framboise, small ripe raspberries are macerated in beet-derived neutral alcohol for a minimum of two months, extracting the full spectrum of the fruit's natural flavor before the liqueur is sweetened and bottled.Tasting NotesAroma: Bright, unmistakable fresh raspberry leads immediately, followed by subtle floral undertones. There is no artificial candy-like sweetness on the nose — it reads clean and natural.Taste: The entry is smooth and sweet, with ripe raspberry dominating from the first sip through the mid-palate. A crisp tartness emerges to counterbalance the sweetness, giving the liqueur a lively, fruit-juice quality rather than a syrupy one. The overall impression is of biting into a perfectly ripe berry.Finish: Long and lingering, with a pleasant raspberry aftertaste that retains that tart edge. The lower ABV keeps the finish gentle, with no alcohol burn to compete with the fruit. How to Drink Briottet FramboiseChilled and neat in a small cordial glass is the simplest way to appreciate the purity of the raspberry maceration. It also works well drizzled over vanilla ice cream or mixed into sparkling wine as a dessert aperitif. For cocktails, try it in a Kir Impérial, where the raspberry intensity pairs beautifully with dry Champagne; a Clover Club, where it reinforces the cocktail's traditional raspberry element with more depth than a simple syrup; or a French Martini, where its natural tartness cuts through the pineapple and vodka base.Best For Building a well-stocked home bar with essential fruit liqueurs Gifting to someone who enjoys dessert cocktails or French aperitifs Elevating brunch drinks like Bellinis or sparkling wine cocktails Adding a natural raspberry layer to baking and pastry projects Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Briottet Framboise taste like? It tastes like fresh, ripe raspberries with a smooth sweetness balanced by natural fruit tartness, avoiding the cloying, candy-like profile common in many fruit liqueurs. How does Briottet Framboise compare to Chambord? Chambord is a black raspberry liqueur blended with Madagascar vanilla, cognac, and additional botanicals, giving it a more complex and richer profile, while Briottet Framboise focuses on pure, straightforward red raspberry flavor from fresh fruit maceration. Briottet typically sits at a moderate price point compared to Chambord's premium positioning. Is Briottet Framboise good for cocktails? Its clean raspberry flavor and balanced sweetness make it an excellent cocktail ingredient, particularly in drinks like the Kir Impérial, Clover Club, or any recipe calling for a fruit liqueur that won't overpower other ingredients.Where is Briottet Framboise made? It is produced at Maison Briottet's historic facility at 12 Rue Berlier in central Dijon, France, where the family-owned distillery has operated since 1836.What foods pair well with Briottet Framboise? Dark chocolate truffles complement the berry sweetness; aged goat cheese provides a savory contrast; lemon tarts benefit from the raspberry's tartness as an accompaniment; fresh fruit salads gain depth with a light drizzle; and foie gras or duck liver pâté finds a classic French pairing with the fruit's acidity. What sizes does Briottet Framboise come in? The standard available size is 700ml, which is the format most commonly distributed internationally by Maison Briottet. Is Briottet Framboise worth the price? It positions as a moderate-tier raspberry liqueur — above budget brands like DeKuyper but below the premium pricing of Chambord — offering strong value for a product made from real macerated fruit in genuine small batches. Why Briottet Framboise? What sets this liqueur apart is the authenticity of its production constraints. Maison Briottet's small-batch method is not aspirational branding — it is a physical limitation of a nearly 190-year-old facility in the tight streets of old Dijon. The two-month minimum maceration of fresh raspberries in neutral spirit produces a purity of flavor that shortcuts like flavor extracts or artificial concentrates simply cannot replicate. For anyone seeking a raspberry liqueur that tastes genuinely of the fruit rather than a confection inspired by it, Briottet's crème de framboise delivers exactly that at a fair price point within the category.
