Dr. Carol Weinstein, professor at Rutgers University Graduate School of Education, presents the research in four multimedia seminars. Following the seminars, you will have the opportunity to consider case studies that demonstrate teachers facing classroom management issues. Reflection Journal The reflection journal provides an opportunity for you to link the program material to your own experiences in the classroom. The journal provides questions for you to consider and allows you to type in your thoughts as you go through the program. This is also a place for you to jot down notes and ideas to take back to your own classroom. The tabs on the right side of the journal allow you to access any page of your journal. Press the tabs on the bottom of the journal to proceed to the next reflection journal question. Much of the information is derived from her texts, Elementary Classroom Management (Weinstein & Mignano, 1997, McGraw-Hill Publishers) and Secondary Classroom Management (Weinstein, 1996, McGraw-Hill Publishers). Case Studies The case study section of the CD-ROM begins with an introduction to the case study method by Dr. Rita Silverman, professor of education at Pace University. In this introduction, Dr. Silverman describes the philosophy of the case study method and provides information on how to approach this portion of the program. Included in this section are three case studies involving teachers facing classroom management issues. Click on the case study title to access the text file. Read the case study, then proceed to the reflection journal for study questions. After completing the reflection journal section, click on the tab at the bottom of the presentation screen to read about possible problem areas and solution ideas for case study two. Case studies one and three provide video of a discussion by educators that clearly shows the critical thinking process involved in finding solutions to classroom management challenges: Click on the tabs at the bottom of the presentation screen to access these video clips. Resources This section includes a list of references available for further study. Also included are six full-text articles about classroom management for you to read at your leisure.
