Earrings became popular in Egypt during the 18th Dynasty, and were probably adopted from their southern neighbors in Nubia. Of considerable variety in both design and material, men , women, and children of both sexes wore earrings during the New Kingdom. This rare pair of penannular earrings is hand-carved from a single piece of creamy alabaster, then carefully polished. They demonstrate one of the most expensive varieties of hoop earrings worn by members of the noble and royal families during the 18th dynasty.
