El Mayor Blanco 750ML is a 100% Blue Weber agave blanco tequila bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a hand-blown, individually numbered 750ml bottle. This Jalisco Highlands expression earned a Gold medal at The Spirits Business 2022 Tequila & Mezcal Masters, where judges highlighted its complex aromas of ripe stone fruits and dried florals alongside chilli, pepper, and citrus on the palate.Quick Facts: ABV: 40% | Origin: Arandas, Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos), Mexico | Style: Blanco (Unaged) | Distillery: DGL Destiladores (Destiladora González Lux), NOM 1603Production & HeritageEl Mayor is produced at Destiladora González Lux (NOM 1603) in Arandas, located in the Jalisco Highlands at approximately 7,500 feet above sea level. The estate-grown Blue Weber agave thrives in the region's sandy, mineral-laden soil, which encourages higher sugar content (brix) in the piñas — a key factor behind the tequila's pronounced sweetness and agave intensity. The spirit is double-distilled using stainless steel pot stills fitted with copper coils, fermented with a proprietary family yeast strain that has been passed down through generations. Each bottle is hand-blown and individually numbered, reflecting a hands-on approach to production that extends from field to finish.Tasting NotesAroma: Crystal clear in the glass, El Mayor Blanco opens with clean floral notes — faint honeysuckle blossom and a whisper of eucalyptus. Earthy cooked agave sits underneath, joined by ripe stone fruit and subtle spice undertones.Taste: The entry is crisp and bright, with full agave flavor front and center. Mid-palate introduces citrus — think faint lime juice and zest — before pepper spice and a gentle chilli warmth emerge toward the peak. The mouthfeel stays lean and clean without turning thin.Finish: A light wave of heat rolls through, drying out into a clean, peppery close. The finish is moderate in length with lingering agave and a faint mineral note that nods to the Highland terroir. How to Drink El Mayor BlancoServed neat or slightly chilled, the Blanco's agave-forward character and clean finish come through fully — a wedge of lime alongside is optional but complementary. This is also a versatile cocktail tequila thanks to its crisp profile and pepper backbone. Margarita: The citrus and pepper notes integrate seamlessly with fresh lime juice and orange liqueur, producing a balanced, agave-driven classic. Paloma: The floral and earthy agave stands up well to grapefruit soda, keeping the drink from becoming overly sweet. Ranch Water: The clean, dry finish and Highland minerality pair naturally with Topo Chico and lime for a refreshing, low-fuss serve. El Mayor Blanco delivers crisp, full agave flavor layered with citrus zest, floral honeysuckle, and a peppery spice that builds gently through the palate. The finish is clean and dry with a light wave of heat. How does El Mayor Blanco compare to Patrón Silver? Both are 100% Blue Weber agave blancos positioned in the premium tier, but El Mayor sources estate-grown agave from high-altitude Arandas soil (around 7,500 feet), which tends to produce a sweeter, more fruit-forward profile. Patrón Silver is generally described as smoother and more neutral, while El Mayor leans into earthier agave character with more pronounced pepper spice. Is El Mayor Blanco good for cocktails? Yes — its clean, crisp profile and peppery backbone make it an excellent cocktail base, particularly in Margaritas, Palomas, and Ranch Water where agave flavor needs to cut through citrus and carbonation.Where is El Mayor Blanco made? El Mayor Blanco is produced at Destiladora González Lux (NOM 1603) in Arandas, situated in the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos) of Mexico. The high-altitude region, roughly 7,500 feet above sea level, is renowned for producing agave with elevated sugar levels. What foods pair well with El Mayor Blanco? Ceviche works well, as the tequila's citrus notes echo the lime in the dish. Grilled shrimp tacos with a spicy salsa verde complement the pepper backbone. Fresh guacamole with totopos matches the earthy agave character. Hard aged cheeses like Manchego contrast the Blanco's crispness. Jicama salad with chilli-lime seasoning mirrors the tequila's own citrus-pepper interplay. What sizes does El Mayor Blanco come in? El Mayor Blanco is commonly available in the standard 750ml bottle, which is hand-blown and individually numbered. Is El Mayor Blanco worth the price? El Mayor Blanco positions as a premium blanco tequila — estate-grown Highland agave, double pot-still distillation, hand-blown numbered bottles, and a Gold medal from The Spirits Business 2022 Tequila & Mezcal Masters all point to strong value relative to similarly priced competitors in the category. Why El Mayor Blanco? What separates El Mayor Blanco from the crowded premium blanco field starts in the ground: estate-grown agave cultivated at 7,500 feet in mineral-rich Highland soil, yielding piñas with notably high sugar content before they ever reach the still. The proprietary family yeast strain used in fermentation adds a layer of character that generic commercial yeasts cannot replicate — it is a direct link to the González Lux family's distilling lineage. The 2022 Gold medal from The Spirits Business validates what the production approach promises: genuine complexity in an unaged tequila. For drinkers who want a blanco that tastes distinctly of where and how it was made, El Mayor earns serious consideration.
