PURE Electrolyte Hydration from PURE Sports Nutrition (Puresport) is a natural isotonic sports drink powder in single-bottle sachets. Tear open one 42 g sachet, tip it into 750 ml of water and you have a 5% carbohydrate drink carrying 37.5 g of sucrose and glucose plus sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium. It is flavoured with real freeze-dried fruit, made in New Zealand, and comes in Lemon, Orange and Pineapple. What it is and when to use it A sports drink for exercise that goes past the hour or turns hard: a long ride out to the border ranges, a trail half marathon, a hot afternoon of tennis or a big paddle. PURE suggests 500 to 750 ml per hour during extended exercise, so one sachet in one bottle each hour is the simplest way to run it. The sachets earn their place on the long days: a few in a jersey pocket or pack lid let you refill a bottle at a tap or aid station without carrying a tub. Taste and texture PURE set out to make a drink that is not sickly sweet or over-flavoured, so you can drink it at full strength from the first hour to the last. The flavour comes from freeze-dried lemon, orange juice or pineapple rather than artificial colours. The carbohydrate is a blend of sucrose and glucose that PURE chose to be quick to absorb and easy on the stomach. Every flavour is vegan friendly and free from dairy, gluten and preservatives. Caffeine, sodium and what varies Per 250 ml serve (14 g): 210 kJ, 12.5 g carbohydrate (7.5 g sucrose, 5.0 g glucose), 100 mg sodium, 30 mg potassium, 25 mg magnesium, 20 mg calcium. Per 42 g sachet: one 750 ml bottle with 37.5 g carbohydrate. Caffeine: none in any flavour's ingredient list. Between flavours: the nutrition panel is the same for Lemon, Orange and Pineapple; only the fruit changes. How to take it Empty one sachet into a 750 ml bottle of water, shake until dissolved and drink it within 12 hours. Sip steadily through the session rather than all at once at the end. Looking after it Keep unopened sachets somewhere cool and dry. A box of 25 sits happily in the cupboard as your race-season supply, with a few sachets pulled out for each ride bag.
