EIA campaigns to enforce the international ban on commercial ivory trade and advocate for the closure of domestic ivory markets worldwide to protect elephants from the threat of ivory trade for generations to come.For decades, EIA has led the fight to protect elephants and end the ivory trade. Our 1989 investigations exposed widespread elephant poaching and a booming global ivory market, laying the groundwork for the international ban on commercial ivory trade under CITES. Since then, elephant populations devastated by poaching have begun to recover. Yet the fight continues: legal ivory markets and weakened protections still drive demand and new waves of poaching.
