THE DRESS Eloise is a deceptively simple shift dress with bust darts, subtle shaping through the waist and hips and an optional waist tie belt or side seam tie backs. Choose from bracelet length sleeves, no sleeves at all or go all out with frilled bell sleeves. Further variations include a circular gathered hem frill which can be added to the dress at the knee for maxi boho chic, or just below the hip for a drop waist cocktail dress. With mix-and-match pattern pieces, this infinitely versatile dress is also a fast and easy sew - no zipper! - that will have you whipping up a multitude of frocks like no other. Opt for linen, soft cottons (think batiste, double gauze, chambray, seersucker, lawn, broderie, swiss dot etc), drapey and/or floaty silks and rayon. Fabrics with more structure willlend a more polished, almost mod-like vibe, especially when the waist tie is omitted. Go for jacquard, taffeta or wool crepe.
