The EMG JVX Set is the X-series version of the vintage-voiced JV Jazz Bass pair in standard 4-string spacing. It pairs the JV's vintage-leaning alnico voicing (warm low end, scooped lower mids, sweet top, classic Jazz growl with both pickups open) with the X-series no-limiter preamp, for wider headroom and a more open, touch-sensitive response. The result is the set most often picked by players chasing a traditional Jazz Bass sound but who want the pickup to breathe with their hands rather than sit compressed. Dynamics rise and fall with the picking strength, fingerstyle has a passive feel, and EMG's low noise floor is preserved. Sits on the JV shelf within the J family, with X-series headroom in place of the standard active circuit's limiter. Companions on the X-series shelf include the alnico JAX (warm, modern alnico) and the ceramic-and-steel JCSX (tight, focused). Runs on a 9V battery. Solderless-compatible.
