The EMG P is the standard four-string active Precision Bass pickup in EMG's range, and the one most players reach for when they want a familiar Precision footprint with EMG's active circuitry sitting underneath it. It drops straight into a standard Fender Precision Bass route and presents the same split-coil layout as the original, so there is no routing work to do and no compromise to the visual format of the instrument. Inside, ceramic magnets and a low-impedance preamp give the pickup its distinctive voice: tight on the attack, solid in the fundamental, and quiet across both halves of the split coil. Tonally the P sits in the same neighbourhood as a classic Precision, with a warm midrange that thickens fingerstyle playing and a fast, percussive response under a pick. The active preamp keeps the output even across the four strings and removes the loaded-cable problem that troubles long runs on passive Precisions, so the tone you hear at the headstock is the tone that arrives at the amp. It records cleanly, sits well in a dense mix, and stays composed when pushed into a driven bass amp or a fuzz pedal. Best suited to players who want the Precision shape and the Precision response but prefer the lower noise floor and the consistent output of an active circuit. It runs on a single 9V battery, fits EMG's solderless quick-connect wiring system out of the box, and is offered in black, ivory and white finishes. Supplied through Selectron, the official EMG distributor for the UK and Ireland.
