The EMG TKO is a momentary normally-closed kill switch for electric guitar or bass, sized to fit a standard 11mm pot hole in a control cavity and wired in-line with the instrument's output signal. Pressing the switch button cuts the signal completely for the duration of the press, and releasing the button restores the signal, giving the player a stutter-cut and rhythmic-gating control under a spare finger position without disturbing the volume or tone controls sitting alongside it. The momentary action opens the tonal territory of players who use kill-switch work as an expressive tool: Buckethead's high-speed on-off stutter, Tom Morello's rhythmic pedal-like cuts, and the wider technique of gating a sustained note into rhythmic pulses without a tremolo effect. Because the switch is normally-closed rather than normally-open, the guitar makes sound with the switch at rest and mutes only when actively pressed, which suits performance use where any accidental contact defaults to sound rather than silence. Fits a standard 11mm pot hole, replacing a spare tone or volume pot on a guitar where the player wants a dedicated kill-switch control.
