The Encaustic Art Iron is required and sold separately. Made from durable anodized aluminum for even heat distribution, the hotplate expands the iron beyond direct iron painting. Use it for encaustic brushwork, color mixing, layered wax techniques, painting directly on a warm surface, or pulling cards through molten wax. Please Note This hotplate requires the Encaustic Art Painting Iron to generate heat. The iron is sold separately. How It Works Clamp the Encaustic Art Iron beneath the aluminum plate. Heat transfers from the iron to the hotplate, creating a heated working surface for encaustic wax without a separate electrical cord or heating element. A small amount of clear wax from our transparent wax blocks can help hold a card in place, or use a strip of heat-resistant tape. A metal clip can also work, although it may interfere with brushwork.
