Shannon Amidon based her new series of encaustic moth portraits on an imagined journey through a natural history museum. "You turn the corner and are greeted by a wall of pinned in sects," Shannon says. "The variety of moths is overwhelmingly beautiful and fascinating. You find yourself drawn to a Calleta Silk Moth that has beautiful blue and rust colors on its wings." This painting is on a cradled birch wood panel and contains natural mica, metal beads and a silver paper moon.
