IMBAS is an Old Irish word that is used to describe inspiration, creativity, and prophetic knowledge. The music presented on this album documents Ensemble Ériu’s artistic development over the past two years. We would like to thank our fellow members — Jeremy, Paddy, Matthew, Maeve and Matthew — for joining us on this journey. We wish to acknowledge the musical sources that have inspired each piece on this recording: Bobby Casey, Willie Clancy, John Kelly Snr., Peadar O'Riada, Tony MacMahon, and Micho Russell. Goideadh do Ghé was collected by Séamus Ennis on Fínis Island in the 1940s; we learned it from our good friend Saileog Ní Cheannabháin.Ensemble Ériu endeavors to combine our musical heritage with a range of ideas and inspirations acquired throughout our musical lives. We hope you enjoy our efforts.Neil Ó Loclainn and Jack TaltyMarch 2016creditsreleased July 10, 2016JACK TALTY - concertinaJEREMY SPENCER - fiddleMATTHEW BERRILL - clarinet, bass clarinet (2,3)NEIL Ó LOCLAINN - double bass, flute (3,4)MAEVE O'HARA - marimbaMATTHEW JACOBSON - drums
