These disorders encompass chronic pain and physical disability, diminishing one’s quality of life1. COMBATS ARTHRITIS Curcumin is a compound extracted from an Indian spice, turmeric (Curcumin longa). Curcumin has exhibited numerous therapeutic actions, including anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties which contributes to its anti-arthritic attribute. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease which involves the retrogression of the cartilage, affecting the fluidity of joint motions. Curcumin decreases the production of certain inflammatory markers, reducing the pain associated with osteoarthritis. Also, it is found to suppress gene expression of several enzymes which are crucial in the degradation of the joint matrix5,6,7. PRESERVING THE JOINTS The gum resin of Boswellia serrata comprises a high concentration of boswellic acids, which is known for its anti-inflammatory activity. Boswellic acids have been identified to inhibit 5-lipoxygenase, the key enzyme in the production of inflammatory mediators which are involved in the degradation of collagen and elastin found in the extracellular joint matrix. With such valuable properties, it is useful in impeding the development of osteoarthritis. Boswellic acids were proven in studies to alleviate pain and subsequently promoting physical activity and reducing limb stiffness2,3,8. BONE HEALTH AND MAINTENANCE Boron is a trace element which serves as a micronutrient for the body. It possesses a diverse spectrum of benefits that are vital to human health. Boron is vital for the formation of bones and its deficiency has been proven to delay bone growth and regeneration. Boron increases the production of steroid hormones, which averts calcium loss and bone demineralization1,9. ALLEVIATE CARTILAGE DEGENERATION The generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress are hallmarks of inflammation10. In osteoarthritis, the increase in inflammatory mediators including chemokines, adipokines, and pro-inflammation cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-4, and IL-6) leads to the destruction of cartilage11. In addition, oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in osteoarthritis induce the death of an important cartilage component, chondrocytes11. These effects result in the erosion and degeneration of articular cartilage in joints11. Resveratrol is a natural dietary compound found in blueberries, grapes, red and white wine etc. It reduces the expression of inflammatory mediators, oxidative stress and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) which ultimately alleviates cartilage degeneration11. Resveratrol was discovered earlier than pterostilbene (both produced by plants) and have more clinical studies and more clinical profiles/data than pterostilbene, hence it’s used in our new formulation.
