These patterns may involve an array of functions, including those of the organ networks, channels and vessels of Qi and Blood, and the defensive layers of the skin and muscles. According to the theories of Chinese traditional herbology, when the Blood and Qi (the Ying and Wei) are insufficient, a person becomes vulnerable to External Influences (Wai Xie).
