Strangely, this wonderful relative of Epimedium davidii was discovered in 1919, but only recently made it into commerce thanks to epimedium guru, Darrell Probst. Epimedium hunanens e is endemic to a small region straddling the Chinese provinces of Hunan and Guangxi. In the garden, Epimedium hunanense makes a slowly spreading, evergreen, deer-resistant clump to 1' tall x 2' wide, topped from early April through early May with 15" long spikes of large, yellow, spider-like flowers. For us, both the randomly-toothed leaves and flowers are slightly larger than the more commonly grown Epimedium davidii. Show more
