Eric Bibb is an American contemporary blues singer and songwriter born 1951 in New York City, NY. Bibb has music in his blood, with his father, Leon, being a musical theatre singer, who made a name for himself as part of the 1960s New York folk scene, and his uncle was the jazz pianist and composer John Lewis, of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Family friends included Pete Seeger, and actor/singer/activist Paul Robeson, who was Bibb's godfather. As a budding young musician, he met Bob Dylan who advised advised the 11-year-old Bibb about his guitar technique to "Keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff". He went on to study psychology and Russian at Columbia University, but did not finish these studies. The next year, aged 19, he left for Paris, where he met guitarist Mickey Baker who focused his interest on blues guitar. Bibb's first recording on a major label was 1997's Good Stuff released on Opus 3 and the American label Earthbeat. He has since gone on to release 34 studio albums to-date, including solo works and collaborations with artists such as Taj Mahal, Rory Bloch, Maria Muldaur and his father Leon Bibb. Standout albums include Spirit & The Blues, Good Stuff, Roadworks, Natural Light, Migration Blues, and his latest release from 2021, Dear America.
