Timing Belt Tensioner for the 200TDi 2.5L turbo diesel engine, part of the camshaft timing belt drive. The tensioner maintains correct tension on the toothed timing belt, keeping i t in accurate mesh with the crankshaft, camshaft and injection pump sprockets and preventing tooth jump. A worn bearing or weakened tensioner lets the belt slacken, risking mistiming; on this interference engine a failed belt allows valve-to-piston contact.
