Escher Interactive PC CD artist designer MC Escher art research tool! CD-ROM Type: Application Platform: Windows Publisher: Harry N. Abrams Released: 1996 Media: CD Escher Interactive is a first rate CD-ROM which will appeal particularly to pupils in the age range 11 to 14 (Key stage 3). Importantly, it also explores a number of areas of the National Curriculum and I strongly recommend it to supplement teaching programmes on MC Escher. The text is accessible to competent readers from age 10 upwards and uses technical language effectively. In terms of being a research tool, it is extremely useful in providing opportunities for pupils to explore a database with useable, printable images. The CD ROM itself consists of an insight into the artist's life and work. Escher's world is opened up to the user through high quality images and supplemented with video sequences. Information is presented to us in sections covering Escher's childhood, student years, family, marriage, travel, science, fame, vision and work as a graphic artist. This is enriched with useful, relevant extracts from publications about the artist. Of particular interest in practical terms is the interactive tessellation program which allows pupils an opportunity to create their own complex tessellations. The interface is straightforward and I find pupils cope with it easily. This CD ROM is a quality piece of engineering, it exudes quality design, is extremely well laid out and is superbly presented. -Welcome to the world of M.C.
