Add Paper-in-Oil caps instead of Orange Drop. Paper in Oil (PIO) capacitors are an older technology, highly sought after primarily due to their use in many vintage instruments such as 50s era Gibsons. The capacitor is literally filled with paper and a special oil before being sealed in thermoplastic, delivering a darker, warmer and smoother tone. Esquire Eldred Mod Switch Controls Position #1The rear position functions like a standard Esquire. The pickup goes through the volume control only, bypassing the tone control for a hotter, louder lead sound with added highs. Position #2The middle position is also similar to a standard Esquire. The pickup goes through both the volume and tone controls, producing a slightly warmer tone than Position #1. Position #3The pickup goes through a 0.0047uF capacitor and the volume control, bypassing the tone control. This replaces the fixed treble roll-off network, creating the popular “cocked-wah” effect. Note: You can experiment with different capacitor values to alter to the tone in position 3
