It removes concrete laitance (the weak, powdery top layer) and opens up a fine surface profile so your garage floor epoxy bonds tightly to the slab. Skip this step and even the best coating can lift - get it right and your floor will last for years. Bare concrete is too smooth for epoxy to grip properly. Etch & Clean acid-etches the surface to a texture like fine sandpaper, the ideal key for primer and base coat. It is the standard DIY alternative to mechanical grinding and an essential part of every floor job.
