For years, he sold red and dried cherries to the local market, but the returns never matched the quality of his product. After the exporting rules for coffee were updated in 2018, small holders were permitted to export their own coffee directly, without having to go through the exchange or a larger company. This has allowed Mitiku to get his own license, and with the assistance of Mecota Trading, he is now able to achieve better prices for his coffee.
