Songbird is the 1998 compilation album that introduced Eva Cassidy's voice to a worldwide audience two years after her death. Released by Blix Street Records on May 19, 1998, the a lbum draws its ten tracks from three prior recordings: Live at Blues Alley, Eva by Heart, and the duet album The Other Side with Chuck Brown. The collection was produced by Chris Biondo, with additional production and vocal work by Eva Cassidy herself, and was mastered at CMS Mastering in Pasadena, California. The tracklist spans folk, gospel, jazz, and soul, opening with Cassidy's acclaimed rendition of Sting's Fields of Gold and moving through Wade in the Water, Autumn Leaves, Wayfaring Stranger, and the Christine McVie-penned title track Songbird. The set closes with People Get Ready, Oh, Had I a Golden Thread, and her now widely covered version of Over the Rainbow. Total running time is approximately 43 minutes.
