Most of my paintings begin en plein air, allowing me to connect directly with the landscape and capture qualities that are difficult to achieve from photographs alone. Drawn to remote and rugged places, and aided by custom painting gear that I design, build, and refine myself, I often hike into the backcountry in search of inspiration. The challenges of working outdoors— such changing weather, terrain, and light—are part of what makes the experience meaningful.
