Size:13 x 15 in. The Connor Brothers’ original artwork Everything Was Beautiful, measuring 5" x 7", is a poignant and visually striking piece. Depicting a vintage pulp-style image of a reclining woman draped in flowing fabric, the work is imbued with both glamour and melancholy. Atop this nostalgic backdrop, the text “everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” is collaged in typewriter-style font, offering a bittersweet contrast to the vibrant sensuality of the imagery. The distressed edges and textured surface enhance the vintage feel, capturing the passage of time and memory. This small but powerful painting epitomises the Connor Brothers' exploration of truth and illusion. British artists Mike Snelle and James Golding created their fictional identity to shield their personal experiences, allowing their work to speak freely without the weight of biography. This blending of narrative and myth reflects their interest in how we construct and consume stories. Their art cleverly appropriates retro imagery and pairs it with contemporary, ironic text to challenge assumptions and expose cultural contradictions. Everything Was Beautiful invites viewers to question the veneer of happiness often presented by society, encouraging a deeper reflection on vulnerability and authenticity. The Connor Brothers’ intelligent, ironic works continue to resonate worldwide, combining wit, beauty and profound social commentary.
