Kabbalists believe that the evil eye is not necessarily intended as evil--it can happen when someone simply covets what you have. Babies in Greece have long been protected by evil eyes on their blankets, clothes, and carriages. It is essentially an energy that is directed towards you, and the symbol is said to ward off any negativity "sticking" to you. Many cultures have even believed that the power of the evil eye is amplified when give as a gift!
