Told almost entirely through song, the film charts Eva Duarte’s rise from provincial obscurity to fame and political power as Eva Perón, while the narrator Ché questions the mythology surrounding Argentina’s celebrated First Lady. The production became a major international success and was praised for Madonna’s performance, its cinematography, costumes and music. "Evita" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "You Must Love Me" and three Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress for Madonna, securing its place among the defining screen musicals of the 1990s.
