Schlappen feathers are found just in front of the rooster’s tail. They have much softer fibres and more flexible stems than traditional cock hackle, making them ideal for larger flies where movement and profile are important. These feathers can be wrapped as flowing body hackles and collars or used in wings and tails. They are particularly useful for salmon and sea trout flies, pike flies, streamers, lures, tube flies and saltwater patterns.
