The EXTenna Switch from Icarus Instruments allows handheld radios quick access to an existing external comm antenna for extended range while inside the cockpit. In the event of aircraft radio failure, a pilot can simply plugin any handheld radio, with the supplied RF cable, into the EXTenna Switch for continuing communications. It installs into the aircraft panel and permits the use of an existing VHF communication antenna, installed on the aircraft, to be used with any handheld VHF radio, allowing for extending the range and reliability of battery operated handheld radios. Regular handheld radio antennas are limited in range when used inside the aircraft cockpit. The EXTenna Switch solves this problem by eliminating the need to install a dedicated backup VHF communication antenna, saving installation cost and aerodynamic drag.The EXTenna Switch is installed between an existing comm radio and the antenna. Any handheld radio can be used, with the supplied RF cable, and provides the handheld radio to use the aircraft’s communication antenna. Plugging a handheld radio, discounts the comm radio and gives access to the handheld.The EXTSW-1 Extenna Switch (EDMO# EXTSW-1) mounts behind the instrument panel using two supplied 6-32 screws. The 3.5 mm jack on the EXTenna Switch extends through the panel to allow access using the supplied cable when needed. An included template simplifies the installation of the EXTSW-1 to serve as a guide for drilling the mounting holes.
