Suited to full sun or light shade and performing best in moderately fertile, well-drained soils, it will tolerate chalk. Fully hardy with a medium growth rate, it clips neatly for formal lines and structural screening. As a tree it becomes very large over time, often reaching 20m+ in height with a spread of around 15m+; when maintained as a hedge it is easily kept to the desired height and thickness. Feeding time: March to April Trimming time: Late August for the main trim; an additional light trim in June for very formal hedges To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
