False Indigo Lunar Eclipse is a showstopper that delivers the presence of a flowering shrub with the easy grace of a perennial. In late spring, tall spires of color rise above the mound, opening in soft violet-blue tones that shift and deepen as the blooms mature—a captivating display that pollinators adore. This is a long-lived perennial native to eastern North America that forms a substantial, shrub-like clump three to five feet across, clothed in handsome blue-green foliage all season. Wonderfully self-reliant once established, it sinks a deep taproot that makes it both drought-tolerant and beautifully permanent in the landscape. Deer and rabbits steer clear, and the foliage turns warm gold before winter while charcoal seedpods add late-season interest. Give it a sunny spot with room to spread and enjoy it for years to come.
