Twist-on wire connectors are a type of electrical connector used to fasten two or more low-voltage conductors. They're typically installed by hand by being twisted onto the strippe d ends of wires. The wires are then drawn into the connector's metal insert and twisted and squeezed together inside. Twist-on connectors are not often used on wire gauges larger than 10 AWG because the solid wires are too stiff to be reliably connected with this method.
