As the frontman of The Clash and later The Mescaleros, Joe Strummer’s raw energy and socially charged songwriting helped define punk rock in the late 1970s, with his now-legendary 1966 Telecaster® always by his side. To honor his enduring influence, Fender Custom Shop Senior Masterbuilder Paul Waller has recreated every detail of Strummer’s iconic instrument in a very limited edition run.The resonant two-piece select alder body, a worn mid-’60s “C” neck profile, and a round-lam rosewood fingerboard deliver the authentic feel of a well-traveled vintage Tele, capturing the spirit of the punk era. Finished in Super Heavy Relic® Aged Black over Three-Color Sunburst, complete with a matching painted pickguard, every scratch and scar from decades of touring has been faithfully recreated. A pair of Josefina Campos hand-wound ’67 Telecaster pickups provide the raw, expressive tones that powered both The Clash and The Mescaleros.Additional features include a 7.25" radius, 21 Jescar Vintage frets, Modern Tele® wiring with 3-way switching, 6-saddle string-through-body bridge with steel barrel saddles, Schaller® M6 Mini tuners, brass nut, and wing string tree with tall metal spacer. Each guitar ships with a replica touring case, a limited edition Joe Strummer strap, and a certificate of authenticity.
