Fentimans began in 1905 when Thomas Fentiman, an iron puddler from Yorkshire, unexpectedly acquired a recipe for botanically brewed ginger beer. He sold it door to door from a horse-drawn cart, bottling each batch in stone jars known as “grey hens,” stamped with the image of his beloved dog Fearless, a Crufts champion. The company went quiet in the mid-1960s but was revived in 1988 by Thomas’ great-grandson, who carried on the tradition of botanical brewing. Today, Fentimans still crafts sodas the old-fashioned way, blending roots, flowers, and fruits into distinctive, full-flavored drinks. We carry three of their favorites: the spicy-bright Pink Ginger, the fragrant Rose Lemonade made with Bulgarian rose oil, and the tart Victorian Lemonade with the juice of one and a half lemons in every bottle.
