This piece is inspired by the rainforest around Mount Warning, known by its Indigenous name, Wollumbin. Growing up in Far North NSW, the surrounding valleys were always present. The rainforest felt thick with life, layered, dark in places, always moving. One of my favourite movies as a kid was FernGully. It was about stopping deforestation in the area and the idea that the forest was inhabited, not empty, not there to be taken from. After that, I looked at Wollumbin and the surrounding rainforest differently. It felt active. Present. Something to respect. This painting reflects that landscape. Deep greens, overlapping forms and buried marks mirror the way the rainforest holds detail. Things aren’t immediately clear. You notice elements slowly, the longer you sit with it. The work is about connection to home and the way place stays with you not as a memory, but as something that shapes how you see the world. Each original artwork is one-of-a-kind and created in my Melbourne studio. The piece will be carefully packaged in a custom double-walled box to ensure safe delivery.
