Fibra Natura's Flax is a 100% linen yarn, available in a wide range of solid shades. Its versatile color palette and construction make it perfect for both home decor and wearable garments. As a linen product, Flax blooms and softens beautifully with each trip through the washing machine. Water dissolves pectin, the natural plant-based starch that binds flax fibers together. Repeated washing over time breaks down these bonds and allows the tough, crystalline fibers to relax and drape beautifully. This all happens naturally with just water - skip the liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets! Tumble dry with wool dryer balls for even more softening. Our notes After making a few of our own projects with this yarn, here's what we've found: Surprisingly soft: We found this to be softer and easier to work with than most linen yarns we've tried before. It's also easier on the hands than other linen yarns. Drapey with good stitch definition: The yarn works up with a well-defined texture and clear stitch definition, and the natural drape of the fiber fives the finished fabric a luxurious feel. Stiffer than wool: If you've only worked with wool or acrylic before, plan for this yarn to be noticeably less elastic as well as stiffer. Many options for fabric style: Size your hook or needles down one to two US sizes (0.5 to 0.75mm) for a denser fabric, or size up for a more drapey, open fabric. This yarn has a lot of versatility for its finished fabric. Swatch details All swatches were wet blocked before measuring.
