Ficus elastica or decora 'Tineke' or Variegated Rubber Tree is a perfect option for someone looking for a serious statement tree in their home. They are easy to care for, requiring one thing and one thing only: LIGHT! Ok, they also require water. But the Ficus elastica is drought tolerant and if you skip a watering here or there, it won't throw a fit like its cousin Ficus lyrata. As Ficus elastica is a tree, it can reach heights up to 10 feet tall in the home! They do absolutely fine in average household humidity. They are toxic if ingested but in my experience cats and dogs tend to leave this plant alone.
