These rootlets excrete a sticky substance that helps the vine adhere to walls, trees, or other structures. With time, the plant can form a dense mat of foliage that covers the supporting surface completely. Ficus pumila is known for its rapid growth rate. Once it establishes itself and finds suitable support, it can grow several feet per year. This makes it an excellent choice for quickly covering unsightly walls or creating a green backdrop.
