Chicago Hardy Fig tree is known for being especially cold hardy and producing small, brown to purple colored figs. The inside of the fruit is colored a lovely shade that looks like strawberry jam. It is productive and easy to grow and may die back in colder climates and resume growth in the spring. Self pollinating. Care Plant in full sun using well drained soil and keep it watered well for the first year. Can be considered somewhat drought tolerant after established but it is best to keep it watered consistently for fruit development. Deer Resistant Considered resistant to deer and rabbits due to their mildly bitter taste but they aren't completely immune, especially if deer are very hungry or food is scarce, in which case they might nibble on young growth, though significant damage is less common. Average size at maturity; 10-12 ft high, space 3-6 ft apart.
