Strombus alatus, the Florida fighting conch, is a species of medium-sized, warm-water sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Strombidae, the true conchs. These are a p opular and effective algae-eating species commonly used in saltwater aquariums and reef tanks. They are known for their ability to consume various types of algae, including green hair algae, diatoms and some forms of cyanobacteria while also stirring and aerating the sandbed and consuming detritus. Fighting conchs are peaceful and generally considered reef-safe and are often appreciated for their unique shell patterns and colors but they get large, so caution should be taken with loosening rock structures. Recommend one conch per 30 gallons capacity as they c an be territorial one male to another. Show more
