Ignition system — AWEIS 24V electronic Fire by Design All-Weather Electronic Ignition System (AWEIS) with commercial-grade field-serviceable pilot burner. Rated for operation in rain and sustained winds up to 55 mph. 24VAC system. Included 24V transformer plugs into standard 120V outdoor-rated outlet. No low-voltage electrical rough-in required beyond the outlet. Thermopile heat sensor — automatic gas shutoff on flame-out. Meets residential and light commercial safety requirements. Propane: standard LP service pressure. Size your supply line for 162,000 BTU/hr based on run length and local supply pressure. Is the pilot burner field-serviceable? Yes. The AWEIS uses a field-serviceable pilot burner assembly. Replacement components available through Fire by Design. No special tooling required. 42" vs. 48" — what changes? Both run the same 18" fire ring at 162,000 BTU/hr. The 42" weighs 210 lbs, 30.25" burner pan, 83 lbs fire glass capacity. The 48" weighs 280 lbs, 33.5" burner pan, 101 lbs fire glass capacity. Allow 24–30" clearance around perimeter. Can this be installed on a wood deck? Not directly. A rated non-combustible pad or concrete pad required between unit and any wood decking. Verify with AHJ before installation. What media is compatible? Fire-rated tempered fire glass, lava rock, or rolled lava stone. Do not use non-rated glass, sand, or gravel — heat stress can cause cracking and burner damage. NG vs. LP — hardware differences? NG version: natural gas orifice at 1/2" NPT inlet. LP version adds air mixer and safety backup valve. Both run the same AWEIS 24V ignition and 18" fire ring. SKU suffix: -KITNG (natural gas), -KITLP (propane). Is this rated for commercial installations? AWEIS ignition is commercial-grade rated. For commercial occupancy, verify compliance with local fire code and AHJ.
