For installs within 5 feet of a pool or spa, Fire by Design's pre-installation checklist calls for the 30 Volt DC AWEIS, a 30 Volt DC power supply certified for use near swimming pools, and the gas line bonded at each fire feature. This upgrade replaces the standard 24VAC AWEIS transformer and ignition system with a 30V DC power supply and electronic ignition system. Fire by Design's instructions say the power supply itself must not be installed within 10 feet of the pool. Confirm the installation with your inspector. Why This Upgrade Is Required The standard Fire by Design AWEIS system operates at 24VAC. NEC 680.22 keeps equipment above the low-voltage contact limit (15V AC or 30V DC) at least 5 feet from a pool or spa.
