The Fire by Design Swimming Pool Certified Kit Upgrade is a factory-installed ignition system upgrade required for any Fire by Design fire feature installed in or within 5 feet of a swimming pool or spa. Per NEC Section 680.22, equipment operating near pools and spas must not exceed 30 Volts DC. This upgrade replaces the standard 24VAC AWEIS transformer and ignition system with a low-voltage transformer and electronic ignition system rated at 30V DC, bringing the installation into compliance with NEC 680.22 and local AHJ requirements. Why This Upgrade Is Required The standard Fire by Design AWEIS system operates at 24VAC. NEC Section 680.22 prohibits equipment exceeding 30V AC RMS or 42.4V peak (or 30V DC) within the pool/spa zone. For installations within 5 feet of a pool or spa, the standard AWEIS kit must be replaced with this pool-certified 30V DC system.
