Fire On The Hill is the fourth full-length album from New Idea Society, released May 15, 2026 via Relapse Records — a notable pairing given Relapse's reputation as a heavy music label. The album marks the first New Idea Society release in 15 years, and reunites the project's core duo: Stephen Brodsky, best known for his work in Cave In, Mutoid Man, and collaborative stints with Converge and Old Man Gloom, and his longtime friend and fellow Bostonian Mike Law of Wild Arrows and Eulcid. For this record, the pair took a more collaborative approach to songwriting than on previous releases, and the result is a compact nine-track, roughly 37-minute set that sits firmly in the territory of spacey acoustic-driven indie rock with folk and twangy, Western-tinged country inflections — a far remove from the heavier projects both men are better known for.Thematically, the album is entirely centered on love in its many forms — beauty, pain, loss, and hope — with each track navigating some element of emotional relationship with an immediacy that, as the band has noted, stops short of tipping into nostalgia.
