FIRECOAT Defend builds a fire-protective barrier around your home and other assets FIRECOAT Defend is a fire-retardant powder concentrate that establishes a temporary containment line around assets to protect them when a bushfire threat arises. Once mixed with water, the solution is sprayed to the recommended coverage on combustible plant matter surrounding the assets, such as grass, bushes, bark, dry leaves and twigs. When exposed to flame or radiant heat, FIRECOAT Defend turns the plant matter surfaces into a protective char layer, forming a slow-burning barrier that helps slow the fire front’s approach. It buys more time for you to evacuate and emergency services to respond, while potentially reducing the extent of any damage to your assets. The coating will remain effective unless rained on, although for maximum protection we recommend regular re-application. FIRECOAT Defend is one of the best defences against bushfire threat on the market. It has been rigorously tested by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) as part of its formal 18-month certification process for safe handling and environmental impact. It is now one of only 3 products approved by USDA and meets the requirements of USDA’s Forest Service Specification 5100-304d for ground application. Developed by senior researchers at the University of New South Wales, FIRECOAT Defend delivers longer-lasting protection than existing foam and gel options. It’s designed for DIY use by homeowners, farmers, businesses, councils, government agencies and anyone with valuable property or infrastructure to protect. For fire agencies, the containment line product offers an excellent alternative or supplement to backburning. FIRECOAT Defend can be applied with regular spray equipment commonly used in gardening and farming. You don’t need professional training to use it – just follow the application instructions.
