The yellow-orange stamens of the Firecrest Water Lily beautifully complements the pink flower petals. This hardy water lily produces gorgeous star-shaped flowers that are held above water, much like a Tropical water lily. Even when it's not in bloom, the Firecrest Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest with its ornamental, saucer-like leaves or "pads." Interestingly, the color of the leaves will vary considerably depending on its age. The striking purplish, chocolate-brown coloration of new or younger pads gradually transitions to a beautiful bright green coloration. The underside of mature pads will remain purple in coloration giving it a unique two-tone appearance. Typical of hardy water lilies, the Firecrest Water Lily produces round leaves with smooth edges. The leaf spread (or the amount of water surface area covered by the leaves) is approximately 4 to 6 ft providing much needed shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for pondlife. The Firecrest Water Lily should be potted in a two-gallon or larger planting container. To help your newly potted water lily establish itself faster in your pond, place the water lily at an initial depth of six inches below the water surface.
