"The mother osprey visible on the bottom-right of this capture is part of the pair that I’ve observed for years, and I discussed them at length in Exploring Creation: Birds of Florida (Vol. I). "This capture is from the first spring that I monitored them, and this was such a profound moment. While this fledgling osprey is almost as large as its mother, it is flying for the first time. After days of wing-stretching and staring longingly at the horizon and new world outside of the nest, this young osprey chick finally went airborne. "I’m so grateful that I was present for this event, and as is evidenced by my favorite aspect of this capture, so is the mother. You can see and feel the pride in her eyes as she watches her young chick fly for the first time."
