Brittany Ferns’ paintings draw viewers into a world shaped by the vastness of the ocean, where folklore, symbolism, and materiality intertwine. Inspired by humanity’s deep fascinat ion with the unknown, her work explores themes of transformation, mystery, and empowerment through fluid, evocative compositions. Mermaids emerge as central figures, embodying both serenity and the uninhibited spirit within the female form, their presence offering a timeless reflection of our connection to the sea. Ferns’ artistic process is rooted in material exploration, layering thick linens, muslins, and wax to create textures reminiscent of aged relics and woven narratives. This fusion of mediums evokes a sense of history and tactility, inviting viewers to engage with each piece beyond the visual. Infused with nostalgia and an enduring reverence for storytelling, her work resonates with the quiet power of myth and the ever-shifting nature of the ocean itself. Show more
