Medium: Encaustic (beeswax) and Mixed Media Image Size: 6 x 6 inches Surface: Encausticboard (rigid, thin board specifically designed for the encaustic medium) My Process & About E ncaustic: The wax of various colors is melted on the hot plate and then quickly brushed onto the surface and then fused with a heat gun to a smooth surface. I start with the first smooth layer of wax on my pieces and then proceed to build layers by adding images, paper and fabric collage, found objects, and more. The end result is a textural, multi-layered artwork that is sure to be draw attention wherever you display it. Caring for your Encaustic Artwork: Please do not put the piece in direct sunlight or extreme heat (wax melts above 160 degrees Fahrenheit). Having the piece in spaces like kitchen or bathroom is not a concern unless the spot does not meet the requirements above. To shine, buff gently with a soft cloth or paper towel.
