Paint and/ or paint pens Paintbrushes of different widths from very fine Permanent markers (for finer details) Lesson 1 We started with white rocks enabling an easy background. If you have dark coloured rocks, paint them all white first to allow for colours to shine through better. 2 Start by painting in the main fish head shape first. Paint the rest of the body a different colour. Leave this to dry. 3 Add eyes and mouth to the head. Add scales or patterns to the body. Rocks may need to be left to dry between coats as the paint colours will blend if they are wet. Paint pens are easier for details, but if these are not available, permanent markers can be used. 4 Display on a white flat sheet with fish facing different directions or the same direction if travelling in a school. Children can follow up this art lesson with stories about what these imaginary fish are up to.
