Meaning: The stars represent the nation's islands and the blue represents infinite space of the sea and sky. The circle of stars symbolizes the nation's unity. The stripes symbolize the road to the construction of Cape Verde; while the color white represents peace and the color red represents effort. History: The Cape Verde flag was adopted on September 22, 1992 when Cape Verde severed its ties with Guinea Bissau, with whom it was supposed to unite with. Cape Verde declared independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975.
